🎯 Introduction
Learning new vocabulary is exciting — but remembering it? That’s the challenge. As a TEFL teacher, your review activities should be just as engaging as the initial lesson. Here are five creative ways to reinforce vocabulary that students will actually enjoy.
🎲 1. Vocabulary Bingo
Create bingo cards with vocabulary words or definitions. Call out clues like:
“It means very tired.”
“You do this when it rains.”Students mark the word — and build listening skills in the process.
✍️ 2. Word Detective
Post words around the room with hidden clues or scrambled letters. Students move around, decode hints, and match words with meanings. Great for kinesthetic learners!
🗣️ 3. Speed Chat Challenge
Students pair up and must use 3–5 target words in a timed 1-minute conversation. Then switch partners and do it again with different words. Builds fluency and spontaneity.
🎠4. Act It Out
Use charades to practice action verbs or descriptive adjectives. Students guess the word based on gestures — perfect for shy learners or large classes.
🧱 5. Story Cubes
Write vocabulary on dice or small paper cubes. Students roll and build silly (but grammatically correct) sentences using the words. Great for creativity and reinforcement!
đź’ˇ Pro Tip
Spaced repetition works. Revisit old vocabulary every few weeks using different games to keep it fresh and relevant.
