🎯 Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
Say and recognize all 12 months of the year
Put the months in order
Ask and answer: “When is your birthday?”
Read and write simple sentences using months
🧰 Materials Needed:
Flashcards or word cards of the 12 months
Calendar (poster or digital)
Audio or video of a months song (e.g., "Months of the Year" by The Singing Walrus)
Blank worksheets (cut-and-paste, fill-in-the-blank)
Crayons or markers
Birthday chart (optional)
🕘 Lesson Procedure:
1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Greet the class and ask: “What day is it today?”
Quick calendar check: Point to the current month. Ask, “What month is it?”
2. Presentation (10 minutes)
Show flashcards or slide of the 12 months in order.
Pronounce each word clearly. Students repeat after you.
Clap or tap a rhythm as you say the months (great for memory).
Show a simple visual calendar and highlight the progression of months.
Briefly mention special holidays/events (e.g., December = Christmas, July = summer vacation).
3. Practice (15 minutes)
Activity 1: Months Song
Play a catchy months song:📺 The Singing Walrus - Months Song
Sing along as a class. Do simple actions or gestures for each month.
Activity 2: Cut-and-Paste Worksheet
Hand out a worksheet with the months jumbled up.
Students cut and paste or write the months in order.
Activity 3: Pair Practice - Birthday Interview
Students ask a partner: “When is your birthday?”
Practice saying: “My birthday is in ___.”
Teacher can model with a few students.
4. Production (10 minutes)
Birthday Poster
Each student writes: “My birthday is in ___.”
They draw a cake or a simple scene of their birthday month.
Put all posters on a birthday wall/chart if space allows.
5. Wrap-Up & Review (5 minutes)
Quick quiz: Hold up month cards. Students say the word.
Ask: “What comes after March?” “Which month is number 6?”
Review the birthday sentence one more time.
